Gwendolyn Marie Grey
Name: Gwendolyn Marie Grey
Nicknames: Gwen, Wendy, Lyn
Age: Twenty years old
Gender: Female
Occupation: Her father owns the local inn/tavern, and she runs it.
Appearance: Gwendolyn is an average height at five feet and five inches. She is very slender, perhaps a little too much so from too much work and not allowing herself quite enough time to eat. Although she still bears a woman's feminine curves. She has very pale gold-brown eyes, that are quite fair in size.
She has long, dark brown hair that is naturally curly and always in the way. It reaches down to her waist on days when it's decently tame. On the fluffier days, it's a little shorter. She rarely ties it back or braids it, but will when it's necessary. She has high cheekbones, full, defined lips, and long dark lashes. She has rather fair skin due to her lack of time able to spend outside, and un-calloused hands as well. She appears fragile, but is anything but fragile.
Education: Like the majority of children, she attended school when she was younger. However she quit early to help her father work the inn. She knows how to read and write as she uses both skills daily. And she is decent with math and numbers as that skill is required as well. She is a decent cook, learning mostly from trial and error. She knows how to preform basic household tasks as well as they are necessary for the inn. She knows the bare minimum about animals, mainly horses as that's mostly all she has to deal with at the inn. But she occasionally has to deal with dragons and finding a place to house them when their owner is staying at the inn.
Offensive abilities: Working in a tavern can be dangerous for a young girl, and when your father is intoxicated more often than not, you hae to learn to rely on yourself mainly. Throughout the years, Gwen has established some friendships with some of the local men who come in often and they will stand up for her occasionally. But otherwise, she has taught herself to be a decent knife thrower, and she has a dagger that she remembers to keep with her sometimes. But she's rather uncoordinated with it all the same. She is certainly not ready to go into battle anytime soon, but if someone charges her, she knows how to defend herself.
Hobbies: Gwendolyn loves to try new things, and to expand her abilities. She loves to learn and to be taught. She has little time for such things though. She can be caught sketching occasionally, although she doesn't enjoy it quite enough to do it often. She mildly enjoys baking, although it's a daily task. She loves to be outside. She likes starwatching and caring for the animals that come through the inn.
Personality: Gwendolyn has learned that the sweet, quiet, well-mannered girls never end up anywhere pleasant unless they have a load of money for a wedding dowry or they're royal. The sweet, giggly, fun loving little girl from her childhood is long gone, replaced by a young woman who knows better than to rely on or trust anyone. She is very cautious in all of her surroundings, always away of who is where and what they're doing. She is mistrustful and often comes off as disdainful and rude. If you catch her on a good day you can earn a smile and possibly even a laugh, but it doesn't happen often.
She is constantly on the go, rushing from one task to another. She rarely likes just sitting, or relaxing. Gwen has a quick temper that erupts mostly when the taunting is directed against her father or her mother. However when harsh taunts are turned on her she often just ignores it and lets the attacker bore himself. However every criticism and taunt burns itself in her memory and haunts her constantly. She is energetic and feisty and perhaps a little too controlling form years of running an inn mainly on her own. She is independent and has convinced herself that she doesn't need anyone, even though she does get lonely sometimes.
She doesn't really know many people her age, and when she meets them, she often drives them away with her personality, and so she often tends to keep to herself.
She hates being seen as weak, so when she's at her meanest, it's to keep from crying in front of whoever's hurting her.
Flaws:Gwendolyn can be impatient at times. And just about all the time, she is very controlling. She doesn't really like help because people don't tend to work to her speed and perfectionist standard. She's not very good at 'stopping to smell the roses' or taking enjoyment out of the little things in life. She tends to be a bit of a pessimist at times. She speaks without thinking sometimes and offends people with it. She's grown up mainly around men so she can be a little harsh, and a little lacking in tact. She is very mistrustful, and tends to push people away simply out of fear of getting hurt if she lets them too close. She's a little prideful, and will go to extreme lengths to prove that someone really isn't better than her.
History: Gwendolyn was born to Tom Grey and his wife Elaine Grey. They had married very young, and Tom had inherited his father's inn. Times were changing so Tom made it a Tavern/inn. And that was the undoing of him. He had a weakness for the drinks and it got worse and worse as the years passed. He never got mean when he was intoxicated, but he was careless and inconsiderate and harsh. Finally, when Gwen turned nine, her mother left. Gwen's father told her that her grandmother was sick so her mother had to go care for her. But years passed and she never came back. And when Gwen grew up enough, she learned her mother had ran off with the local butcher. Although she has fond memories of her, and occasionally misses her, Gwen has developed a resentment for her mother.
After that, her father needed help with the inn, and when she turned thirteen, working after school wasn't enough and her father made her quit to help with the inn. And she's been running it ever since.
Dreams: Gwendolyn wants to travel. She's never been beyond the city's limits but one day she wants to see the world. She wants to see princesses and knights in shining armor. She wants to see a jousting match. She wants to own her own dragon one day. She thinks they're the most beautiful, majestic creatures in all the world, and hopes one day she'll be able to have one for her own.
And just like every other girl in the world, she dreams of finding love. Not so much someone to shower her with lilies and roses, or to write her poetry, or to cuddle with at every opportunity. But she wants to be loved for who she is. She wants a partner in adventure and a helping hand with work. She wants someone who understands her.
But, they're just dreams. And she doesn't believe in fairy tales.
